Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility Memorial Contribution

Memorial Contributions are listed in our "Golden Book" as a lasting tribute to loved ones. When individual donations in honor of a person reach $200.00, that person's name is added to the Benefactor Board in the lobby.

The Board was started in the late 1970's and a second Board was started a few years ago. It is comforting to know that the name and memory of our loved ones remain visible in appreciation of all they meant to us during their lifetime.

Memorial Contribution Van Fund

The family of Valerie Hutchinson restricted their memorial contribution to a new van fund. The current 1993 White Ford van was purchased with operating funds, but the memorial fund (all donations) purchased the wheelchair lift package. The Family Independence Board approved the establishment of a new van fund from all non-designated donations in the Memorial Contribution Fund. The current balance is a little over $2,000.

The White van is used to transport residents to appointments when a family member, friend, or the SATA bus will not transport. Facility transport is only available when we have sufficient staff to drive and accompany the resident if necessary. Residents prefer to have a loved one present at the appointment to hear the doctor's findings and recommendations. A staff member can not give history information or consent for procedures while at the appointment. Family members may use the van to transport their loved ones to appointments, shopping, or social events within the county subject to availability. Families must arrange the use of the van with Eric Cornell for social events and with the nursing secretary for appointments. Proof of driver's license and insurance is required and copies are retained for our records. Family members driving must also learn how to operate the lift safely and use safety restraints. Mr. Cornell will arrange for a training session and demonstration. Any gas used must be refilled. Volunteers are always needed to drive or accompany residents on outings. Please see Mr. Cornell if you can help.

The last Memorial Contibution Memorial Contribution Fund project was the greenhouse addition on the South wind of Eden's Acres (South Unit).
